Jenna and Ben, West Midlands Safari Park

wedding music band

We recently performed our wedding music entertainment in a West Midlands wedding venue. Unconventional surroundings were the order of the night! Outside, the distant roars of big cats and chattering sounds of monkeys, inside we set up in an old wine cellar – long, arrow, and with a ceiling so low, a basketball player wouldn’t have been happy (check out the photo).

Luckily, no basketball players were present, just a hundred or so guests celebrating the marriage of Jenna and Ben. In the absence of a wedding co-ordinator, it was left to us to bring guest from the anterooms through to the performance area – which we did in the best possible way, by playing a great mix of classic and contemporary wedding music.

Come the first dance, a decidedly nervous-looking Ben took Jenna by the hand and whisked her around the floor as we performed the requested special song, a 1990s R ‘n’ B classic, which actually works really, really well in a live band setting, especially when performed by a professional wedding band.

The rest of the night featured us performing songs from the 1960s through to the current charts. The timeless Jackie Wilson hit “Higher and Higher” is such a crowd pleaser, and our version of the bona fide modern classic “Mr. Brightside” turned the dancefloor into a singalong highlight.

It’s flattering to us that guests want to get involved with the entertainment, and when someone offers to sing a song, it means that people are enjoying themselves immensely! So when it happens twice in one night, you know it’s going to be a good night. Two of Jennas’ friends sang “Valerie” and “Don’t look back in anger”, ably assisted by just about everyone else in the room. This hopefully created fond memories for the guests, but we suspect it may be a distant, hazy recollection for those who found the bar early…

Jenna and Ben thoroughly enjoyed themselves. How do we know? Well, we received this glowing report from the happy couple just a few days afterwards:

“From the first time I spoke to you, you did everything to demonstrate your experience of playing at weddings, your professionalism and value for money. You certainly didn’t disappoint! Your rendition of our first dance was fantastic! The modern twist was exactly what we were looking for!

I cannot believe how many guests have been in contact already to tell us how great you were – we only got married 4 days ago! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you and certainly will do in the future. Thanks again and all the best for the future.”
